The Future of Tinnerman Canoe Base is Up to You
On September 20, 2011, the Executive Board of the Boy Scout Greater Cleveland Council (GCC)
voted to cease operations at Tinnerman Canoe Base (TCB) and offer it for sale.
In response, Friends of Tinnerman/Tinnerman Guide Association (FOT) member Bill Blake (guide, 78-80) set up the Tinnerman email listserv (http://lists.sonic.net/mailman/listinfo/tinnerman). The listserv lets TCB alumni quickly and easily discuss alternatives that would allow Tinnerman to continue to operate as a canoe base for young people.

How to Save Tinnerman
An initial survey of listserv members showed that the Private Foundation approach was most appealing. The 53 recipients also indicated a willingness to donate $183,500 by April 1, 2012 towards the purchase of TCB. (It’s currently listed at $500,000.)
Dan Wilcox (guide 69-70 and son of long-time TCB Director, Bill Wilcox) has put together a Proposal for a Tinnerman Foundation. The highlights of the Foundation Proposal are:
TCB would be acquired, improved and maintained by the Tinnerman Foundation (TF).
The Foundation would lease Tinnerman to one or more BSA councils to be operated as a canoe base during a number of weeks in the summer.
TF would assist with stipends for returning guides and camperships for scouts on a long-term continuing basis.
The Tinnerman Foundation would require a dedicated and active Board and volunteer membership.
You can read the entire Tinnerman Foundation Proposal here.
Will Tinnerman Be Saved?
We need to quickly determine if there are enough TCB alumni willing to support a Foundation — both financially and with their time. To reach that goal, we created a second survey to measure, in depth, supporters’ levels of commitment for the workings of a Foundation.
If you haven’t already done so, please take the short, 10-question Tinnerman Foundation Survey today! Survey here: http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/9GVLNC7>
